    Shameful reminder
    Emblem of segregation
    Confederate flag

    (c) 2002 FINDING SO(u)LUTIONS

    *it's been said that the
    ConFederate flag
    is just a historical symbol
    of "battle" from the past
    when in truth, it's meaning
    says much more than that.

    Ms. N

In considering what happened saturday in Pensacola, Florida...how timely this haiku is for me. Growing up thru the civil rights movement, the display of "that" flag, has always been a source of vexation to me. While I do believe that if some one want to display the flag at their home or on their truck, that is their right and I uphold it. Besides it helps me recognize "them" more easily. But when the government continues to remind it's fellow African Americans of the shameful oppression it unashamedly put them through, by displaying this flag, how can we ever be truly convinced that they understand (not to mention the apology yet due us from the govt. for allowing this holocaust to go on as long as it did) what they have done to us as a people.

On Saturday, in Pensacola, some of the whites decided they would show their appreciation of MLK's birthday, by gathering together in Confederate army uniforms with the display of the confederate flag. Sadly, most whites will never understand that the confederate flag is to blacks, what the swastika (did I spell dat right) is to the jews...a symbol of gross oppression and murder.

N2ursoul is such an accurate pen name, cuz you really got into my soul with this special haiku.

Sistah, thank you for the information on what was going down in Pensacola, FL recently.... yes, it is very unfortunate to know that in this day some white folks just don't get it! That justs goes to show ya' "white priviledge" allows them to continue to be ignorant .... ignorance by choice!

Thank you for also taking the time to read & respond to this piece... as challenging & as sensitive as it may be, it speaks volumes in on three lines!

    Thanks sistah friend... Always
