South Carolina Rainfall Is Worst In A Thousand Years, Gov. Haley Says
Officials are calling the amount of rain "mind-boggling"

... More than 20 inches of rain have fallen in parts of the state since Thursday, when Hurricane Joaquin began nearing the east coast, prompting officials to shut down roads, close school districts and enforce mandatory curfews.

The total 24-plus inches of rain in Boone Hall and 18-plus inches near Kiawah are "mind-boggling," the National Weather Service in South Carolina tweeted Sunday afternoon.

Charleston set a new daily record on Saturday when it experienced 11.5 inches of rain, the NWS reported ...

I strongly dislike Gov Haley. How would she know what happened in last 1000 years?

Maybe the reporter got it wrong. Here's the actual quote, which makes better sense:

"We are at a 1,000-year level of rain," South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley said at a news briefing on Sunday (Oct. 4). "That's how big this is."

The inundation left nine people dead and some 40,000 people without safe drinking water in the state, NPR reported.
