And they say conspiracy theories are nonsense:

There was a time when a coup was the standard way of removing a political opponent in Africa.

    I'm not surprised

Yeah, I feel you, Brother Sekhemu. But, looking at the fact that a backroom deal was obviously made to free Mark Thatcher (former prime ministers Margaret Thatcher’s son) after his involvement in a failed coup attempt in Equatorial Guinea …you may have keep hoping.

Also, thanks Brother pan for the link!

Reason, well one of the reasons for the demise of apartheid-besides the boycott was that battallion did not do so well in the aforementioned countries(for the long haul) but was losing against SWAPO in Mozambique or one of the territory in a neighboring country. That really what got DeKlerk to dismantle apartheid and free Mandela.

re: "losing against SWAPO in Mozambique"

    Wow...no one caught this?

Actually, SWAPO (South West African People's Organization) was the liberation movement in Namibia. The ruling party in Mozambique is FRELIMO. What happened was the afrikaner govt. was supporting a "rebel" fation to oppose Samora Machel's party and FRELIMO was successful in routing the "rebels" who were getting logistical support from the cia/Mobutu govt. in zaire because FRELIMO was supporting the FNLC, the Congolese National Liberation front. This is one example of the People's Victory against imperialism.
