For you guys out there that follow African government, politically, technologically or otherwise, this is an interesting story. The South African government apparently has adopted ODF (Open Document Format) as a standard in all government operations. The ODF format is equivalent to a Microsoft .doc, except it is open. So a regular citizen / programmer can read, write and make tools that will work with government documents. This is a great thing for Governments openness. The German government took similar steps a few years back when adopting linux (an open Operating System) as a standard for all government offices and operations.
