With all the R. Kelly madness and the sameness of some of today's R&B artists I'm glad to hear some new sounds. Has anyone heard Hidden Beach Recordings newest artist, Mike Phillips?

HB is the home of Jill Scott and you know how refreshing her sound was when it came out! Well Mike mixes a lot of R&B and Hip Hop into his jazz sounds, its definitely worth a listen - especially if you're tired of the same old, same old! He also did a cover of that Roots joint "You Got Me," but that's not on his new CD.

I had the pleasure recently of interviewing Mike Phillips. Please show the young brother some love and check out the resulting article "The Jazz In You..Too" at

Any other artists out there good for curing the cookie cutter blues?

    that boy can blow!

Mike Phillips opened for Jill Scott when she came to town here last year. not only can he blow you can hold a note. one segment he must have held that note for about 15 - 20 minutes. okay it was more like 7 -9 minutes. but he had me grasphing for air!!! he also plays on Jill's 826 2 -cd album, he gtes a solo.

i love the sexy saxophone! I friend had told me about a hip-hoppish cd featurning Mike. we were just talking about what albums to add to our collections!

I'll be sure to add this one to my list!
