Someone’s Child

Twelve years old and has to deal with the harsh reality of growing up fast

Pregnant at such an early age in the ghetto

Was a subject they neglected to teach us about in class

Where was her parents you ask

When this child was running wild on the streets

Was she another case of a youth

That just could not be reached

Maybe she was starving for attention

Did you pay attention to the clues

Instead you just kicked her out of the house

When finding out the news

Now she’s in and out of shelters

Having evil men protect her

Selling her body on the streets

Just to make ends meet

Instead of enjoying her adolescence

She spends most of her time on her back

And on her feet

Now I ask
Will we continue to turn the other cheek

While this child turns to crack to ease the pain

And just as we decide to open are eyes

It’s too late

Teenage girl slain

This is not imaginary

This is the reality we have to face

We are all at fault

For allowing such a tragedy to take place

We stood by and did nothing

We allowed this to happen

Now we are without a daughter

A baby is without a mother

All because we were afraid to take action
