    It was
    the crystal clear
    I refused to see
    Like a
    d
    r
    o
    p
    of truth serum
    lying await
at the bottom of an eye
    Similar
    to sticky fingers
    eyelashes attempted
    to prevent its unavoidable voyage
I tried to pretend it wasn’t there
while at the same time praying a breeze would come
to dry it up before its source could witness the only surface sign
of the pain he caused soul deep
The more I tried, the more it struggled
to loosen the grip that held it back
    a breeze
    never blew, so
    a
    solitary
    tear
    eased to the tip
    of weakened lashes
    As
    salt does to
    an open wound
it stung when it met with skin
    However
not near as much as the reason it was there
    Lingeringly
    it traveled down a cheek
once caressed by an assumed lover’s hand
like a tourist sightseeing a resting ground
    littered with relationship wreckage
    At the
    edge of my chin
    it dangled as if reminiscing
    for a moment
    and then...
    d
    r
    i
    p
    p
    e
    d
    to the floor
    to begin the puddle
    for those that without doubt
    will follow

Inspired by an assignment to express a tear's journey from beginning to end.

This is one of those pieces where I'd have to pretty much quote the entire piece to highlight what impressed me. But these lines particularly stood out for me:

When you don't want to admit that the damage was so harsh it brought you to tears, that tear does sting. An "assumed" lover can do just that. This was posed oh so well, in a way that I've come to expect from you, talented poetess. Welcome back.

As painful as it seems, it's the heart that pushes the tears out...otherwise should they remain inside (as we all know) water entangled in anything long enough, will break it down. The heart can only mend if it's released of it's tears.
    Awesome write sis

Rich, Yes, seldom is there one tear.

Watz, When someone you thought you knew, isn't, somehow it makes the pain greater.

Queen, yes tears are produced for a good reason.

Thank you all for taking time to read and respond
    Its appreciated BIGTIME!

    In the Spirit of Sankofa!

    Coco,

It never fails, after all the crying and tears, comes joy, happens every single time, hasn't failed yet. (So, joy really does come in the Morning!)

    But as the tear falls
I captured it in my hand
    and swallow it
    therefore taking your pain
    as mine own
for I shall not watch you shed another tear
succumb to fears of the heart
    Allow me to mend yours
    through the breakng of mine
as I take your solitary tear
and cast it into your past
    let my love for you
    overcast the
    sadness
    and bring you joy
    for as long
    as you have me
you have no reason to cry
no reason to shed a tear
    for the pain
    that you bear
    is now mine
