Crisp aluminum cans hiss at the air
and exhale their frothy frigid breath
as family and friends gather to argue over cares
while holding on to what little life they have left

Friday evening massages the day with whispering gentle breezes
drunken uncles seconds emotions that agree with how they see it
the evening sun gently recedes with the onslaught of nightfall
Bobby Womack's crooning whale inspires a cricket’s call

the sneaky aroma of marijuana slithers from the back porch
and chases all of the culprits as they giggle and come forth
fatigued faces begin to relax as smiles climb higher and higher
coerced by newly reddened eyes and third round of Budweiser

the watchful eyes of stars shimmer through the night
as we collectively bath in the solace of yester-year and good times
every day somebody’s dream takes flight
but for right now...i’m enjoying living out mine

Your poem reads like a short story that really allows the reader to see what you see and smell and feel what you remember just the way it was.
    I really enjoyed the read.
