    day to day
i watched her from a distance
ya see, we never actually met or spoke
i'd began to speak then choke
    words just wouldn't come

    something about her haunted me
yet something w/n me needed to know
    who was she?

royal crown of luscious black locks
    massaged w/Kemi oil
& wrapped beneath a colorful scarf or cloth

    ebony toned skin
    smooth & rich
as if basked in the sun's face each & everyday

brown eyes that danced like twinkling stars
    whenever she did laugh
the echo of laughter traveled afar

a broad nose & full lips
    barely parted when @ rest
    mimicking a slight pout

    beautiful
    mysterious
    youthful
    serious
    that's what i saw when i looked @ her
never knowing what she was all about...

so one day i overcame the resistance
i went over to meet & greet the sistah
    i walked over
    she too came near
    walking toward me
we stopped shy of coming face 2 face...

    'excuse me' i said
    'how are you?'
    she simply looks @ me
    she doesn't speak
    i continue
'everytime i see you, you're standing alone
so far away, with nothing to say...
there are times when you smile, other times
no smile for a long while... like today your expression is laced
    with sadness... confusion... depression...'

    she replied...
'you ask a question of concern & make many observations,
but what took you so long to pursue this conversation?...
you never took time to get to know me... grow to like me...
    or even love me!...'

    'do i know you sistah?'
    i questioned...
    her reply, 'come closer...'
    i walked closer
she came nearer also and asked
    'don't you remember me?'

    i looked into her eyes
    what did i see?
    i saw my reflection
    my spirit
    my self
    staring @ me
    praying i'd recognize her
so we could get to know one another
& be all that we could be...

    unknown to the world
    unknown to me
    the lesson shown
    sistah unknown was me...

    peace

I almost don't know what to say. I hate sounding repetitive, but this is some good sh**. Self Reflection. Loved the way you laced this one.

wow! Nadia this is so beautiful. I was a little confused at first because I was sure that you was a Queen and then as i began to read I thought that I had made a mistake and became confused. As I continued on I found that I was correct. well anyway, I loved this. I was feeling a bit cold when I sat down to read then this here scribe warmed my heart. Beautiful!!

yo sistah, i know exactly where ur comin from
cuz once upon a time there was this person i was runnin from
    kept chasin me
tryna make me, except their identity
i kept runnin n runnin until i ran passed a mirror
looked behind me n the reflection became clearer
the person that i was so afraid to see
    was, it was- me.
