There was a documentary on PBS about this curse of silence. BM were being sentenced to chain gangs, for the henious crime of being out past curfew. The longer the sentence, the higher the death rate. The women didnt talk about it. It was a conspiracy of silence. Even when brothers got wise and skipped on a train up north, rather than go to jail. Children during this time grew up with the scars of this. Fortunately, it became the Civil Rights Movement. Today, it's crime and the destruction of our communities
