Waiting on a northbound train
to pass across the track
Radio blast me insane
dj talking smack

Waiting on a northbound train
hoping it aint long
Pull a pen and rack my brain
writing Simone's song

Will it be about her eyes
or her braided hair
or creamy legs and thighs
and her skin so fair

Will she send a picture soon
sexy in a thong
looking up I see the moon
writing Simone's song

~ And the words dont come so easily
~ as they did long ago
~ But I must still struggle on
~ cause I need her to know

Finally the train goes by
Now I can go home
Writing a refrain at last
my mind starts to roam

Turning in the southbound lane
hoping I'm not wrong
Did I pen these words in vain?
Writing Simone's song
