    [IMG]

    I saw the lightening across the meadow
    Too far to touch and yet I lift my hand
    To see it illuminated from the glow;

    I want to ride on its power to know
    How it enters our peace and taps
    Our lives without making a sound

    How can it bring light into darkness
    When the storm appears at dusk and
    The world’s in hiding from the elements;

    Its danger makes no sound in the meadow
    As it cracks the skyline like an antique hand
    Mirror whose suffered a painful fall;

    [IMG]

    I heard the thunder before the storm
    Warning me of its impending approach
    And I watch the masses disperse quickly;

    I felt the thunder under my feet as it
    Passed by my door and I shivered from
    The fear of its next thunderous appearance;

    I want to contain the thunder in me so I
    Can speak with the rumbling of the earth
    And shake the masses into understanding;

    Its power cannot be seen from the night
    For it enters like a lions and returns like
    A land under the cover of mystery;

    [IMG]

    I saw the lightening as it met the thunder
    And they joined to create a soliloquy of
    Destruction each time the appeared at night;

    I wondered how the steps were ordered
    Seemingly touching the land in ways only
    They could know to impart their creativity;

    Each time they meet they resurrect the pain
    Of before by creating a sense of fear in man
    Who cannot control the power of the elements;

    So I sit on the porch under the cover of tall
    Oak trees and wonders if the sky will make
    Room for the sonnet of destruction;

    And I lean back and smile to hear the rain
    Tap dance on the roof, applauding the trees
    As it wets their limbs to reassure they are
    The tears of the impending storm…
