surface items tumbled off the dresser to the floor
creating a mess not out of the ordinary
    nor messier than usual
    she fumbled for anything
    reaching out for her life
    CRASH!!!
her head goes into the vanity mirror
    the reflection held: ANGUISH
as force from behind embedded glass into the face
    blood trickling
    not an application of makeup
    not an image of beauty...
    strength gives way to surrender

she sees light, but doesn't fight
hits the wall, falls & curls into a ball
    he stands above towering
    big & strong
    and that's all...
    that's all she remembered...

    now
awakened... engulfed in the ache of last night's date
another day of her life unfolds
    many pains... tears... secrets
    forever untold...

    her eye slowly opens
    staring @ the ceiling fan
    round & round it goes
likewise thoughts & questions grow in her mind
    round & round they go
if they'll ever stop she doesn't know...

    who can i talk to?
what am i going to do?
    promised this wouldn't happen anymore
that promise broke when he began to choke
and knock her to the floor
    last thing she recalled
    the slamming of some door...

    stumbling to the mirror
she gets the first glimspe of her face
    still weak in the knees
the bathroom sink sustains her brace...

    lips swollen
    ripped in between
    from the passionate kiss
    planted with his fist...

    eye sealed completely shut
    from the blow
    of his gentle touch...

    thoughts & questions pause
    he's coming thru the door
    carrying flowers...
    of the situation @ hand
    she's no longer aware
    as he pulls her near
whispering sweet nothings in her ear...

instantly the fear & hurt flee
memories of last night's date dissipate
they make love and carry on
    honeymoon
    but soon
the same ole violence boils over...

    this time she lies motionless
    lifeless...
forever silenced w/n domestic violence :(

it always amazes me that the victims can so easily forgive all their pain and allow their plight to continue.

too much reality in this piece.:(

    THANKS FOR FLOWING.

This piece was absolutely amazing. This was written with such profound emotion, imagery, and was just powerful This captured the sad and shocking reality of domestic abuse so many women suffer in silence. This reminds me of a similar piece I once wrote, but I must say this has for more depth and artistic craft to it than mine. Your pen is rife with talent. PEACE

Very deep...........as sad as it is it goes on in a home every night. what is the sadest is that there is some little girl there to see mommy going through this and becasue of that she grows up to let the same sick thing happen to her...... it's got to be the way it happens .............it happened to my mommy she thinks..............it's a vicious cycle that has to be stopped by one woman to say no more............if not for herself then for her daughter, sister, friend or the silent woman who is crying to an ear that can't hear her agony ................this was an excellent piece with a bone chillin reality for many!

Your piece here is so tragically effective I can only thank you for giving a voice to the many who have died in silence.
