    show me an American Dollar...
And I'll show you my South African Rand.

    Show me Dr. Pepper...
And I'll show you umqombothi (traditional african beer)

Show me Tommy Hilfiger..though you shouldn't really,
    but show me Tommy don'tlove******s
And I'll show you stoan cherrie, Luxion kulture,Julian..the likes

Take me to disneyland and wonderland and any other land,
And I'll take you to Sun city, kruger national park, Carnival city, Cape Town!!

    Take me to Hollywood...
And I'll show you beautifully made African movies which will never even make it to the mainstream...

All of this sound unfamiliar, it should.
I'm just feeling patriotic and tired.
tired of being told I need to look to the world-Europe, America, Australia to find my confidence and affirmation and identity!
I'm NOT going to deny the corruption and pathetic management of governments throughout the continent but I'm NOT going to settle for less..
    no more...
    no more...

I appreciate this, very much! (and I've seen some of the beautifully made African movies you speak of)... the "mainstream" ain't ready, and that's all right, too...

Speak your mind! I love it!

I used to talk to african friends who spoke of what you speak of today..and you are so right..why should you look anywhere but in your heart to verify who you are and where you come from..and be proud of it...

I am so glad to be reading from you...so glad you are blessing us with your poetic insight into Africa. It is my desire through reading your poetry, that I am enlightened even the more, of mine and my forefathers roots.

    Thank you very much,

    Joyce

all I can say is put a visit to South Africa as "things to do before I die.." it is a beautiful country, not because I'm being baised but even in the midst of everything...I still love it best here...
