[12/31/2010]: Alpha Leadership and Scholarship Fund : The Philadelphia Foundation
Founded in 2009, the Alpha Leadership and Scholarship Fund will allow Zeta Omicron Lambda Chapter to continue its tradition of awarding scholarships for college and tuition for leadership training to deserving low-income African American male high school students. The Fund will also allow the Chapter to deliver and enhance much needed tutoring and mentoring opportunities to the youth in the community it serves.

The Zeta Omicron Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated is pleased to announce its 2011 Scholarship Program. Seated in the heart of North Philadelphia, Zeta Omicron Lambda has been serving the Philadelphia community for over 50 years. Through this annual scholarship program, we seek to recognize 2010 graduating high school seniors in the Philadelphia and surrounding area who have exhibited exceptional academic performance, excellence in leadership and dedication to community service. Our scholarship is a fund at The Philadelphia Foundation.

On April 16, 2011, the Chapter will provide three outstanding individuals with a $1,000 scholarship to be used for their Fall college enrollment. We seek to recognize exceptional young men who are graduating high school seniors. To be eligible for consideration, a completed application (see application for full requirements) must be received by February 4, 2011.
We are pleased to offer the following named scholarships this year- Claude Mickle Family Scholarship, Leonard and Ellen Sloan Scholarship and the Fred Johnson Scholarship.

Scholarship
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is a community-conscious, action oriented organization. Since its inception in Dallas in 1931, Kappa Zeta Chapter, the local arm of this organization, has provided services and support to the Dallas Metroplex. One of our major thrusts is scholarship which has been the impetus for awards averaging $5,000 to $10,000 per year to deserving high school seniors who participate in our special scholarship program, Miss Blue Revue. We are pleased to announce the additional scholarships being offered by our chapter. Descriptions of each can be found below.



Fairilla E. White Scholarship Josie Washington Memorial Scholarship Undergraduate Academic Scholarship




Fairilla E. White Scholarship

The Fairrilla Emory White Scholarship was established as a tribute to a historic black educator and charter member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Kappa Zeta Chapter. Mrs. White, born in Dallas on Oct. 7, 1898, was to be cited as Dallasʹ ʺoldest living teacher of recordʺ however, she passed just two days shy of the award presentation.

An education pioneer, Mrs. White graduated from Dallasʹ Colored High School in 1916 and Bishop College in Marshall, Texas, in 1920. She taught at Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., and returned to Dallas in 1922. She taught math at Dallasʹ Fred Douglass and Phyllis Wheatley elementary schools and, beginning in 1924, at Booker T. Washington High School.

Purpose: The scholarship is to be awarded to a female high school senior who has excelled academically during their high school career.

Eligibility Requirements:
1. Must be a female high school senior
2. Must plan to pursue post high school studies (2 or 4 year college/university)

The Scholarship Award: The winner will be selected based on the documentation and recommendations submitted. The winner will receive a scholarship in the amount of $500.00 and will be notified by February 2011. The winner will be honored during a special program on the evening of Saturday, March 27, 2011.

Sigma Gamma Rho, Inc. Scholarship


The Sigma Gamma Rho Scholarship was established to provide financial assistance to college for graduating high school students in Hamilton County . The purpose of the Sigma Gamma Rho, Inc. Scholarship Fund is to promote academic excellence and provide an opportunity for students with academic ability, community involvement and financial need to reach their fullest potential.



Eligibility
•Applicant must be a graduating Hamilton County high school senior planning to attend a regionally accredited, non-proprietary, technical, community or four year college/university in the next academic year
•Applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale

Application packet must be received (not postmarked) in the office of the following address no later than

4:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, 2011.


Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered.

The IVY COMMUNITY CHARITIES OF PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, INC. located in Prince George's County, Maryland, awards scholarships to high school seniors who are planning to attend a two-year or four year college or university on a full-time basis upon graduation. To be eligible, the student must be residing and attending school in Prince George's County.

Application deadline is February 25, 2011.
