    Hey fambly,

I often go to Wikipedia to get general information about famous people. What I find odd is that Blacks are just listed as Americans, not African-Americans. Why is this a problem? Because it makes us invisible to our own posterity. Our children already think we never did anything because they don't know that some of the people they read about are Black, so they have no role models they can identify with. Race is always crucial information when a crime has been committed (when have you eve r read a news story that says "3 Americans were arrested in connection to a liquor store robbery yesterday?"), but when we do something that contributes to society, we're just Americans. I think we owe it to our children to stand up and be counted.

Since Wikipedia is just that, a wiki, I was thinking of searching for people on their and editing the entries to include the fact that they are "African Americans." At the top of this page we are told there are 17,000 members at Destee. If each of you finds just one entry, that will be 17,000 African Americans our children can look up to.

This is much ado about nothing. Your ASSumption is this is a deliberate attempt to marginalize black people. @nd, why AA? Why not black? Let it go. This is a battle not worth the energy

Aw Kem, it doesn't necessarily have to have been deliberate. In fact, isn't that where we get tripped up? We waste a lot of energgy trying to get Whites to admit to deliberate racism and it's like we can't move until they do. Effects are objectives that can be addressed irregardless of what was meant or intended.

I will do it. It will take a minute to research the first ten people I will start with. Then we can all add to the stone soup. In time for Black History month

Weird.... I noticed this too and I bothered me

I use to be one of those "I'm not AFRICAN American, I'm just American" types but boy have things changed
I'll never be just American. There's too much history and relevance in that hyphenation to just get rid of it

I'm down to make some changes
