    She was..
    home-made ginger beer
    brownies and green tomato pickles

    She was..
    love in a black dress
    silver hair tied
    into a tight bun
    held together
    by a tortoise-shell comb

    She was..
    standing there
    still washing clothes
    by hand
    on a washboard

    She was..
    sitting there straightbacked
    in her rocking chair
    with brightly chequered cushions
    rocking to and fro

    She was..
    the aroma
    of some eau-de-cologne
I never knew the name of

    She was..
    the taste tester
    of my kitchen creations
cooked in a miniature cooking set
    when I was nine

    She was..
    hot cross buns
    on easter morning

    She was..
    a stern, no-nonsense
    teacher of life

    She was..
    age and wisdom combined
    close to god
    in my eyes

    She was..
    a rock
in my ten year old world

    She was..
    soft words as I sat
    at her feet
    and listened

    She was safe
    She was love
    She was my Grandma

    And when I was ten

    She was..
    gone

Thank you for this beautiful ride. Like all rides, this like your ride with her ended much too soon.

    this one

shot the bolts straight through me, Kitana. How you open my mind and let me see through adoring 10-year old eyes.

This is special beyond my feeble attempts to express myself with language that falls short of what my heart wants to say.

    thank you

    Kitana...Sometimes, even I am

at a lost for words. This poem is sacred and I dare not storm upon it with weightless words. Therefore, I take a bow to your beautiful memory and the beautiful way you painted it.

Both of my grandmothers passed away before I was born.

    Kitana,

I was never blessed to have known my grandmother. I know in my heart had she lived, she would've been the bestest grandmother. All the wonderful stories I'm told about her. She even had that grandmotherly look. I thank God my son and daughter are able to experience the love of a grandmother. Thank you so much for sharing this poem.:)

Rich...thank you and I'm glad I could help you to recall the sweet memories..

pd...your one word says so much...thank you

Shery..I'm sorry for your loss although I am sure you have a lifetime of memories, sweet and precious...my grandma was also a very stern woman, but I guess I was the one who only seen her other qualities, because I loved her so...

mslucious....finally!..thank you my friend, and I know you would have appreciated the ride....

Coco...thank you for your lovely words..and yes your children are lucky, personally I think the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren can be a very special one, they have so much to give...and so much patience while giving..
