she stained me, so
when your criticism of me never comes
I am surprised
when you say, "I understand"
I blink my eyes
when you see we are both also individuals, then
I can breathe
when you don't want to keep me on a leash
I feel relief
that you want to hug me a lot
swells my heart
that you aren't mean to me
feels like art
she stained me, so
sometimes it doesn't seem real
is this how it's supposed to be?
support and consideration
I guess so
I came to this backwards, didn't I
like the abused child
expecting to be hit
but it's not happening this time
I am still
standing here in amazed
still waiting to have to
run the other way
she stained me, so
I will need some time
it will take a while
to get used to kind
to learn to expect
not to be attacked
to really think
someone has my back
to count on the good
and not the pain
to honestly believe in love again
I think it could be true
I think I might believe in you
