I’ve seen it before, but not like this
the fists of all his own demons
vibrating violently against the cheekbone of her self-esteem,
bruises line the skin of her grace
matching those that have blackened their ugliness
across her once so lively face, replacing hope for tomorrow
with fear of
the next minute
or the next hour
or the next time he gets his hands onto a drink

he’s raped her reason repeatedly
tearing gashes in the ****oral fabric of her womanhood

‘maybe if I weren’t such a *****, he wouldn’t treat me like a *****’

blind, not just by the black and purple puffy skin layering her unseeing eye,
his sometimes present love thrusts her back into a whirlwind
of dangerous and misguided trust

‘i’ll never hit you again….baby, I swear…it’s just sometimes I can’t explain what comes over me…..but we’ll make….cause I love you….oh, God, I love you….you believe me, right?…right?’

she part answers yes out of fear,
and out of the need to believe that the violent/rapist/son of a *****/sorry excuse for a ****ing man….is not the man she fell in love with….is not the man who tells her he loves her

‘you know he was abused as a child’
‘its not him, it’s the alcohol’
‘he wouldn’t do it if I did what he said’
‘I know he loves me….it just happens’

how the **** do you know?
by the size of the next bruise he’ll use to make him feel like a man
beating you senseless, defenseless
until the blood starts to pour….
then he rapes you, because he feels like he can?

and can’t he? because he does it all the time,

‘deep down I must want it, because I stay’

she slits her wrist with ignorance,
until the blood of her innocence pours,
she says he loves her over and over again
while he forces her to the floor

if joy is pain, and pain is love,
then they love to an immeasurable bliss,

she slits her wrist with ignorance….
while her once beautiful soul drowns
in her sorrow
his semen
her tears
his fists

thank you all for the responses.....I appreciate them alot....and yes, it's true that the events the poem depict are becoming all too common.....it's time for the world to wake up and recognize what's going on....

ladye, talk to your friend....it took my sister 12 years, 4 kids, and being dragged by a moving car to wake up....by the grace of God she's alive today

much love to all of you, and definitely keep scribin'
