the near north
She stood there
seething with jealousy
at the love scenes
playing out in front of her

she had no man.

no floral agents would grace her door
no roses or chocolates would be
presented to her

she had no man.

no one to share her lover's day
or sway the night away {with}

one by one...
couples delved into their fun
through jestures of love and cheer
she feared never again to feel
what they felt

she had no man

she has so much love to share
but no plans to share
no...

she stood there

jealous

waiting for this lover's day
to fade away
so she could resume her life
of loneliness
unnoticed.

she was alone
on her own
there was no prince charming
to save her day
...fill her nights
with the sweet release of love

year after year
had made her bitter
with the phraseology of
Be My Valentine
as loneliness
ate away at her

she had no flowers
to throw away
...to dry and preserve
she had no hang over
from wine or love

she had no man.

she stood...
waiting for her piece of the pie
her share of romance
on lover's day

but it wasn't to be

{even on the day after}
