    ramblings from the hope chest

    she doesn't cry in public
    there's laughter whenever she speaks
    but her tears fall nonetheless
    ...ink streaming down her cheeks

    her sorrow blurs her vision
    and only I can see
I am her confidante; she entrusts
    her mournful words with me

    for I have no remorse
I do not know of shame
and this is the real reason
why I do not share her name

she won't admit how much she's hurting
    not in broad daylight
but her pain is most unbearable
in the heat and dark of night

    I hear her muted sobs
    I know her inner strife
    I feel her wondering if
    she'll ever again touch
    true happiness in this life

    she doesn't wish to trespass
    on ground she doesn't own
but I know her heart is where he is
and I know she's not alone

no, she won't cry on paper
    for everyone to see
she puts the pen in our left hand
and lets them fall from me

    To Her

To her with the ink streaming down her cheeks, cherish those who hold this close to let your secrets become her own--to protect your hurts with her hand--Alyce--this is a wonder rhyme--I absolutely loved it--Amun-Ra
