So I was thinking about what I couldn’t do, and I thought that I would share that with her and

she muscled her way into my mind
    screamed at my soul,
fanned the fading embers of creation,
    slamming the yin into action,
bludgeoned the cobwebs from their cosy corners,
dynamited the block freeing all the letters,
slapped the sleeping dog in the mouth,
    drop-kicked the moss hairy stone,
and ice-grilled the doubt that sat shocked and still daring it to say one more word,

shamed me into straining for heights never experienced,
teased me into clawing for depths never desired
and urged me to bite a chunk out of reality never believed in, laughing the entire time

taking me places I didn’t even know I thought,

moving me places I didn’t even know I knew,

forcing me places I didn’t even know I felt,

leading me places I didn’t even know I lived

    and she did this because

I let her tell me something that I needed to hear and didn’t want to know, heard I wanted but didn’t know to need and knew I needed but didn’t want to listen

and hearing it from her made it so real I thought that I had hit my head on a beam of light that was all the sounds I had ever imagined,

and hearing it from her made it so true that I tried so hard to find the seam in the gaps and the moments between truth and God and verity I almost lost myself in eternity,

and hearing it from her made me feel like my mother was telling me that I was a man and that yes I had to will to win at all or die trying,

and hearing it from her made me feel like I was nothing but that wannabe who sits around talking about things that he will never do and dies wishing he had actually shut up

and hearing it from her showed me that it’s a lot easier to tell someone something than it is to do it yourself, unless you do it
