    Abuse can take many forms
And in all forms I abhor it
Mind stuck on a friend who suffered such
abuse, gee, must be some reason for it
    I hope she is okay...

Haven't talked to her in ages
But how much I used to talk to her
She kept editing scenes of abuse and
love and it all came out a blur
Love is as clear as crystal, isn't it?

She and he started out just fine, it seems
But then he just stopped, without rhyme or reason
Maybe he was scared, perhaps he found another,
But she kept on loving, like there was no change of season

Through snow, wind, sleet, or hail
She persevered, determined to keep the love warm
Struggling to get him to feel her ache
She became a haven, his port in the storm

    And then the abuse started
He took her fortress and dismantled it, piece by piece
Gave her his time in rations, so starved she'd gobble
up the crumbs, praying that the portions would increase

Guess that wasn't enough, so then he insulted her
intelligence, to thick to get it, or so he figured
There's a thin line between love and hate, her desperation
viewed as pathetic, hence his wrath became triggered

She explained, well he doesn't hit me.
But he **** near pushed you down, didn't he?
What's more, sex alone cannot hold a relationship together...
She reasoned, but he shows his love for me, sensually.
A good roll in the hay, doesn't explain the abuse away...
    But, I digress.

Eyeing the phone, I have a clear and concise
argument ready if needed, should I indeed make that call,
It's not his abuse, but the lack of love for yourself,
that's the biggest abuse of all
You see...abuse can take many forms...

    so vivid

the picture here was so vivid and candid as well
it seems as if you are talking to me
but, i look at this as a macro-evaluation of
    black relationships
now, i will write about a relationship!

I appreciate you saying that this piece painted a vivid picture. It first came to mind while thinking of an old buddy of mine, and then evolved from there. Unfortunately, this piece does reflect some black relationships, but not most. Thank you for your response, now off to read your piece....

Reality isn't always easy to see, but our lives depend upon it. Thank you much Rich.

Sometimes we wear abuse like a second layer of skin...and that's not a good thing. Like we've settled for what we can get. Yes, it's a very thin line between "Love & Hate" ...and sadly enough, both hold equal "Danger"!
Nice piece poet, I surely can relate to the science you dropped.:em16:

Hey there queent, you're right, when the abuse gets so common place that we wear it like a second skin, we're abusing ourselves as well. Thank you so much sis.
