Black People : Self Love?...Explain That.

I'm sort of curious about what people mean when they say that they love themselves. Like, what is it about yourself that you love? What would you like to change? How important are other black people to you? I mean, what is this self love I hear so much about?

I think self love is just wanting the best for yourself, not based on flat out desires, but more based on what you've earned with hard work and true patience. When you show love to yourself, you won't count yourself out before you've begun, but get to work because you want to prove you're worth it!

I'd like to change a lot, hard to say, but easier to figure out.

As important as any family I see a lot or have not seen in some time. I try not to lack in compassion, patience, nor love for any, so they are treated like my family also, since after all, we are all brothers and sisters of the earth, yeah?

Brother--I wear my hair NATURAL. I don't even comb it. NATURAL.

So these young ladies are passing by me. One feels a bit bullyish and says "I like you hair." So I tell her, holding my hand to my heart, smiling "Thank you." Her friend than yells "She's lying."

Now--I should have known. When a woman doesn't like her own hair--as exhibited by her straight hair--why would she like my hair when I have the same hair as her.

But you know what--I love my people for this little incident of street bullying. Because the whole event is so honest--and that's what we are as a people: Honest.

Sometimes this honesty isn't great. White man asks where a Black man is hiding and we point out in a heartbeat. But I love it.

My self-love is routed in my knowledge of self and my freedom to be myself. And I am especially self-loving for the ancestors hand-selecting me for greater things. Finally, my self-love is in the hope of finding that woman to marry. I love the idea of meeting that lovely woman--in love with her people and in love with me!

That's my self-love.

Btw--did you mean Bro. Polight? When you said 28 year old on Youtube?

I completly understand as far as the hair thing. Despite my avatar I too wear my hair natural. Have been natural for about 5 years now. I like to switch it up with weaves and braids...give my self a break from all the mantience that I do to it. But I primarily wear it natural.

I can relate to what you said about your people not fully appreciating your decision to wear your hair natural because I experience the same of the opposite sex...I mean how many consious brothers are out there really who don't get there way of style of dress, walk of life, view points on life, how to treat a lady etc from BET and MTV? Not a lot.

I'm sort of curious about what people mean when they say that they love themselves. Like, what is it about yourself that you love? I love all things about myself. I even love that my imperfections. I love my strengths. I love how I know my self worth and love the journey it took to get me here.
What would you like to change? I can be too understanding and forgiving.
How important are other black people to you? Extremely!
I mean, what is this self love I hear so much about? Every one will probably give you a differnt answer because self love is differnt for everyone. This will be a good question for people who dont have self love so they can take an inventory on how great they truely are.
