Second Life - a 3-D virtual world created by it's residents. Quite the rage! Do any of our members live there too?

I took a look in it a year or so ago when I saw a documentary about a teenager that was earning an easy $6000 a month by building houses for the 'residents' in there. It seemed like an ideal place to set up shop and earn some $ without leaving my seat. I understand most major corporations have set up shop there, including embassies etc. There have been 'real life' divorces on grounds of virtual infidelity during this 'Second Life' the works.. people get totally immersed in these things...

    but now racial studies?

    The skin you're in

Normally Erika Thereian is blonde and California tan, an avatar hybrid of Jenny McCarthy and Pamela Anderson, nothing less than the archetypal white girl of the world's dreams. Recently her friend Chip Midnight asked her to model his latest "skin"-- not an unusual request, since Midnight is a long-established master in the creation of customized avatar skins that Residents make, buy, and wear, when they're going for a look that Linden Lab's avatar adjustment sliders can't achieve. She'd wear Chip Midnight's latest skin around Second Life to build up word of mouth, and generate sales. "I often throw her my new stuff to take for a spin," Midnight explains to me. "She's very social, so she's a good way to get feedback." Viral marketing at its most immersive. [...]

She spent three months in the skin of a black woman.

More ppl should do this 2 see what we go thru on a daily. I wonder will they still think that racism is no longer a problem.

Yeah - I thought is was interesting. She didnt go into Second Life with a new persona in her new skin - she wasnt someone new - she has several friendship etc already in place and she is known for marketing/testing out new designs.. the reactions were somewhat expected, but interesting none the less ;)

I've been in SL since 07 back when it was really all the rave. I havent been on much lately though. It is a great place to create and sell things though I have many friends who make and sell things on there. There are a lot of black people on there and we do have associations and even Black greeks are repped there. I created the club for ZPhiB. What I really liked is that you could fly, buy houses, cars, jewelry and best of all have all the clothes and shoes you ever wanted lol. My frat and sorors used to go throw and attend parties all the time on there, but its not what it used to be. Still cool for dress up and meetings though I havent logged on in a while.

This is a great platform for starting businesses in our community.

To fight white racists, overwhelm them with our presence.
