Looking out over the bright horizon with infinite possibility
I catch the aroma of salt water, but no ocean is in sight
Only a billion squared grains of time sit between my toes
The beige meets blue meets white
And at night the ubiquitous black is sprinkled with flashes of dreams
At the apex of my thigh, a bead of sweat begins to roll in a zigzag pattern down my leg
The bead caresses my calf and falls into the abyss of aridness
The heat makes me glisten, as I listen to stories the ancestors passed down
My name is Season, and to find my Spirit is the reason
That I’ve placed myself on this journey
The tales echo in my head as I pray to embrace my journey with third eye open and alert.
The longest journey begins with a single step, a jewel my mother told me while washing a sack of the roundest yams for nourishment on my journey
The measure of woman is where she stands in time of adversity, a gem my grandfather gave me while sharpening a sword I hold at my side, but only for secondary defense.
Trust your soul, my little sister imparts as she gives me a flask of the sweetest elixir from the Nile itself and a purple and gold flower I wear in my hair
And I commence
My feet have made trails over many burning sands
Until the scent of the sea grows stronger and I meet the lunar reciprocal of my king and I share a common song
We share the spiral of life
Notes intertwine and DNA recombines in our journey
We sang with spirit and soul as one
Lyrics like
What if I looked into your eyes
And saw more than what seems
Actual reality
What if I saw
Sunrise reflections over beautiful pools of melanin and greenery
Where we could both dip in the serene depth of each other
What if you whispered into my ears
Erogenous ebony visions of an eternally kindling haze
And I hear a thousand untold stories of joy and pain, and felt a wind
blow over a sunset filled Sahara oasis, delighting every cell in contact
I would walk blindfolded in quicksand
To make a place
Where we could both sit
What if you kissed me,
And it was sweet like countryside porch sitting lemonade sips
Blackberry juice running wild with children’s laughter
Where we could both live
And what if you looked back
And saw
The shadow of a pyramid surrounded by chocolate waterfalls
Where your presence was first felt
Where we could both learn
And what if you caressed my arm
And felt the caramel earth, over which an underground Nile runs deep
Where we could both float and understand
What if I saw inside the curve of your lips and
Strength and a faith that could not die
And what if I kissed your back
And a soul choking wall of vines died
And crow and doves alike cried
With the knowledge that we now have a place
Where we could both grow
A hill never broken, smooth soft roads, tears running through the valley
Can I walk across and plant seeds to stimulate the rotation of the moon and earth
What if we laid in the clay and looked at the sun
And smelled the sweet scent of ensuring rain
And the clay turned to sand
And we smelled the sweet scent of Congo
And seconds became centuries, and millimeters became miles
And what if we embraced
soul, mind, and body interlaced
And discovered a place
Undefined by time and space
Where we could both love
And gave thanks to the creator
For
This
Divinely created union
……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………And suddenly
Interrupted, I see my blood flowing
I feel my hands and feet being bound
I struggle to no avail
And scream out to my king
And he calls out to me
The sound of his voice pierces my heart
My tears and blood mix and I can barely see that he is confined also
Both arms outstretched trying to grasp each other…………………………………………………….severe pain sweat sickness excrement death………….
I wake and grains are gone, instead unfamiliar dirt and clay
Immediately I look for my king, but he is nowhere to be seen
So I wait patient generations and grow in the process
And one day, out of the blue, like when my journey first started
I hear the whisper of your voice and catch the fragrance of your body in the wind.
Last I heard he was in a remote location, maybe an island
And you tell me of your experience since we were together
And we sing our songs once again
Some faith never dies
His lyrics transcend everything that separates us
Lyrics like
There is a time in season, when the birth of a flower
Can pour its fragrance upon a garden
It is the scent of serenity
There is a time when the ocean opens up its mouth
Consuming its body with anger
It is the rage of solitude
There is a time when silence can be heard in the center of a train station
It is the sound of faithfulness…………the deepest journey of all
Faithfulness is planting flowers and trusting it will grow
Upon the earth, the scent of loyalty
For faithfulness is not limited to growth, faithfulness has no boundaries to oceans or has no cautions for life
Faithfulness is confident that in the midst of a storm
It will be the savior to the lost
Faithfulness is void to loneliness
It is sensitive to the curves of the heart and the declaration to the mind
I have faith that in season my heart will pour out its fragrance upon your spirit.
Open its mouth over your trust
Bring comfort to your ear
I have faith that in season
You
I
We
Will be two lovers consuming all of life’s seasons ahead
The season to journey
And I reply
No period of time, length of earth or sea
Could stop this love
There is a time in season, when the birth of a love
Can consume two and affect thousands
A time when fulfillment is understood and not a want
A season when the darkest night breeds the brightest light
A season when love is a meeting and not competing
A faithfulness that will not die
So I reach out to you now
When so many years ago we were torn apart
And we encompass each other
A love that could not die
An eternal embrace
I catch the aroma of salt water, but no ocean is in sight
Only a billion squared grains of time sit between my toes
