    In the Spirit of Sankofa,

... This is pretty decent coming from Leakey:

Scientist: Evolution debate will soon be history

NEW YORK (AP) — Richard Leakey predicts skepticism over evolution will soon be history.
Not that the avowed atheist has any doubts himself.
Sometime in the next 15 to 30 years, the Kenyan-born paleoanthropologist expects scientific discoveries will have accelerated to the point that "even the skeptics can accept it."
"If you get to the stage where you can persuade people on the evidence, that it's solid, that we are all African, that color is superficial, that stages of development of culture are all interactive," Leakey says, "then I think we have a chance of a world that will respond better to global challenges."

    He's still at it huh?

How would knowing we all came from Africa confirm or deny creation? The Bible more or less confirms this lol.

Most dont doubt evolution. It's 1st cause that is the quandry. And it is very doubtful this will be put to rest, unless there is a time machine taking people back that far

This is my first time coming to this particular group. I wish all the best that nature, nurture has to give to all of you. I will say that a controlled mind is like a very good puppy. It knows how to scratch the door and whimper when it needs to go out side or get back inside to the comfort furnished by its master. From the title it looks like you guys are my kind of people....you think with an open mind and do not need the house master to show you where the door is. Peace

It depends on where you are in the world. In the U.S, most of the polls I've ever seen suggested that it's hovering around 50% at best. I did see something that said quite a number of people find it compatible with belief in a god. I might look into that later to see how it breaks down by religion and denominations/sects. I think that would be pretty fascinating to see. I'm especially curious about Catholics and Jesuits on the matter.

As for abiogensis, it's fascinating to see what they already know in terms of it being completely possible. Will we ever know for certain exactly how? Probably not. I think there's a good chance there could be a catalog of possible conditions and pathways that could lead to life.

    There's also this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10132762

Not a bad time to be alive. 15-30 years sounds somewhat optimistic imho, but with stuff like this happening maybe people will be convinced.

    In the Spirit of Sankofa,

... Its important to interject this point; there will continue to be those like me, a creationist, which reject the idea of macro evolution.

More important though. People think evolution is linked to atheism as is creationism to religion. However this is a logical fallacy. You can be an atheist and not believe in evolution (for example an alternative theory of an alien creator) or like the pope, a religious figure, believing in evolution.

Rational people cannot deny evolution in light of the massive evidence available. The evidence for creationism is non-existent. What they call evidence is usually just sophistry that can easily be swept away at the first glance.

I think Leaky is in the wrong here. Good luck making some scientifically illiterate redneck in the bible belt believing in evolution. Understanding (not believing) evolution is a matter of good general education not finding more evidence. The evidence is already overwhelming as it is of now.
