I think rape is one of the most hideous crimes known to man. As a man who has a daughter, wife, and mother (all of whom I love dearly)....I fully support more aggressive methods to bring rapist to justice, as well as to prevent more rapes from occuring. However, this device has too much that could occur wrong. How exactly does it determine a woman is being raped? Could it tell the difference between rape and rough sex? I think further research and details need to be given!

I am in agreement with you on almost everything, but after reading the article the device is inserted and removed by the woman so if she "chooses" to take someone home and have sex than she would be removing the "device" so there would be no problem with rough sex or any other type of sex....

The woman will insert the device at her discretion. So, she wouldn't put it in before she has sex with her boyfriend/husband. I think it's for when women go out...or feel they could be at risk. It's a tough one though...no one REALLY ever thinks they will be raped tonight / tomorrow / next week. Or do they?

I think the problem in South Africa is that the Law doesn't punish rapists adequately...Rapists get away with it time and time again in South Africa.

    it's deeper than that.
the problem is a lack of morality.
    that needs to be addressed.

if you rape anybody, you have some serious issues.

I don't know if it's a good idea. What happens if a woman "thinks" her man is cheating, and decides to teach him a lesson by leaving the trap in while they have sex. I think sometimes people are given power to choose whether they want to use it for good or evil. Look at the problems with child support fraud and so many false rape and molestation charges. I agree something has to be done to protect women, but I'm not sure this "penis bear trap" is it.

This is not the way. rape is disgusting, but i agree an angry woman making decisions off of emotion will do anything to get back at a man. at least some will, i see this causing many problems. i gurantee this will not change rape statistics. think about it, once word is out rapists will simply check to see if she has the trap, or if he is caught by the trap hell most likley murder the victim and seek confidential treatment.

You are so right. It's just so scarey to be living in South Africa with all these crimes and now to be faced with such a solution to try and stop rapes - it's a sign of the times here.
