    First ray of sun early morn’
    I lift my head from a peaceful
    Rest and I smile at the sound of
    Sparrows outside my window;

    I think about the coming of today
    And how my life will begin again
    Once I step onto the hardwood floor
    Covered by a small, tattered rug;

    As I rest sitting up on the side of my
    Bed I look to the corner to see a
    Pair of running shoes, fresh white
    With streaks of blue and red designs;

    These shoes are not familiar for the
    Ones sitting there before were worn
    Beaten from the constant abuse of
    Step after step faster around in circles;

    I wore them shoes out but never on the
    Track for my exercise came from unwanted
    Pain and lack of trust in one whom guided
    My life to the destination of peace today;

    I clocked many miles in them shoes
    From city to city, state to state, time to
    Time, person to person, love to love
    And finally GOD to man to GOD;

    Can’t run no more because my feet are
    Swollen from the marathons in life gone
    And now all I can do is sit on the side of
    my bed and cry about the life I’m living;

    I used to be fast; bet I could beat Maurice
    Green to the door and run circles around
    Marion Jones when it came to avoiding the
    Responsibility of loving another for life;

    Can’t run no more because GOD touched my
    Hip when I reached for my shoes to find them
    Gone from the wear and this new pair, fresh out
    The box awaiting me to grab hold for another race;

    I wonder who brought them?

    Doesn’t matter now because I can’t even walk
    And now I must depend on another to help to
    Get through the day and it hurts me to see that
    The one I ran from now carries with me when
    I couldn’t stand with them;

    And no matter how many times I tell them to go
    They refuse for they tell me they could never run
    From the love of God has in me for them, and the
    Love God gives them to love the brokened down parts
    Of me;

    I see them running shoes in the corner,
    fresh white with streaks of red and blue
    and I smile for today I finally know that
    I won’t be wearing them anymore….

    "All God's Children Need Travelling Shoes"

    Absolutely beautiful peace!!

    These precious verses sent my thoughts in so many different directions after just one read. There is so much here to contemplate...I will definitely read this one again.

    Metaphorically Beautiful

    And I felt you all the way on this one. So good to have your
    poetic insight flowing here once again. I am always blessed by the things I read in your poems.
