    Ruins of love

The plaster cracks, the windows shatter,
and down comes the last building,
    my last hope.
thus the city my love built has fallen,
    every outgrowth of hope fallen,
divining the ruination of my heart.
    the crevices within run deep,
    embedded within lost love.
    her images flashing before me,
her voice incessant, rings in my ears.
all contained in each buried hope,
    each gem buried beneath ruins,
    faith barely sustaining the ruin.
    my body slowly crumbling within,
pillars, beams fall toppled by the wind,
    light breezes toppling towers,
    remains only foundation,
    oak trunks lying in wait;
    hoping, straining
    for balance amid drying soil.
    soil becoming barren of love.
    yet still remains hope,
    its buds willing,
    waiting for love.
