    I took a walk through the garden
    Perusing the growth of tulips as
    Butterflies dance from leaf to leaf
    Looking for a place to rest for today;

    In the midst of the garden I see a rose
    Wilting and slumping over a group of
    Dropped petals and broken thorns that
    Have lost their color after the fall;

    I wonder how this flower could be in
    Such a dilemma when I notice weeds
    And dandelions huddled around the rose
    Digging their roots deep within the soil;

    I realized the reason for its destruction
    For the flowers surrounding them have
    Held tight to its roots and works hard to
    Destroy it not from the obvious but its soil;

    The rose’ foundation was strong, I remember
    When I planted her and how I nurtured her
    Back to restoration with gentle care given
    To me as my heart poured into her true love

    But I never saw the dangers, thinking my
    Garden was well protected and I walked it
    everyday to pull out the weeds so that the
    bumblebees will have a safe place to play;

    but I never saw the weeds as the changed
    form to become a beauty of flowers so bright,
    so innocent that I trusted them to cover and
    protect her while I rested at the end of the day;

    but this is when the seeds were planted, their
    roots dug deep into the soil grabbing hold of
    her roots and pulling, choking them, preventing
    them from receiving the nourishment of the soil;

    I was to secure in me as I walked the garden,
    Leaving my duties to the plants surrounding
    Me listening to the whispers as I continued
    to finish the work I was called to do;

    and it was not until I saw the petals falling like
    tears of pain resting in piles of thorns that could
    protect her from without but not from the things
    held deep within for this is where her death began

    and I could not see the enemy planting its seeds
    for the dandelions were so trusting and beautiful
    they were so peaceful amongst the many which
    let me believe they could do no true harm;

    but now I see and I know that the battle was not
    for me to see as long as I tended to the garden
    with me on my mind not seeing past the beauty
    but looking deep within the soil, the foundation
    of life the true existence of strength from above;

    I pulled up the dandelions after I sprayed them with
    Life giving waters from above and as they withered
    Away I watched my rose lift its head to see the sun
    Shine brightly once again as she slowly picked up

    Her petals…
