    They tried to captivate us
Take our culture and break us
Told us we’d amount to nothing
But Martin, Malcom, and Marcus told us something
Past to present and years to come
Halle, Denzel, and P. Diddy show the work that’s already been done
When time reveals and the truth unfolds
We were meant to rise and take control
We’ve basically taken control of 2 continents, what’s next?
It doesn’t matter what you read in the text
History says it all; these authors didn’t even exist then
Most of today’s products were African American inventions
Enslaved, beaten, jailed, hanged, and segregated
Still smiling, still living, still rising, AND STILL SEPARATED
Couldn’t even get a day, now we own a thirty days
Now you tell me what culture has people of different shades
My beautiful black sistahs have strength that a man can’t clutch
My beautiful black bruthas have knowledge that a book can’t touch
We couldn’t even get on television, now we “Shine bright like the stars”
Don’t get it?? Turn to BET, yes, that channel is ours
We’ve been spit on, tripped on, taken for granted, mis-under-stand-did, force to live in division
Angry –yes, but we’ve learned to take anger and turn it into ambition
There’s nothing more powerful than a black person’s presence
In 10 years tops we’ll have a black, hard working president
Couldn’t even get on the radio, now we basically run the industry
Collaborated with rock, country, and pop- now that’s chemistry
We can be put through struggle, but we can’t be brok-un
Will Smith, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Vivica A. Fox, Janet Jackson, the list goes on
We practically came from the bottom, now we have conquered the top
From writing to singing to acting to dribbling the roc
Nothing makes me happier than seeing my people rise…

poetically spoken, indeed. unfortunately, the following is so very true.

"Enslaved, beaten, jailed, hanged, and segregated
Still smiling, still living, still rising, AND STILL SEPARATED"

THANKS for the river. loving it.

    peace&manyblessings.:)

:stading ovaton: Poet, now its time for me to compliment you over and over again. To me, you have always been a poet of many talents and always knows what shes writing and knows her history about writing sumthing I mean like, you write about pain like its your last name, or you write simply about being black like you did this^ I could feel sumthin like that but to me, Only YOU coulda worded it like that

..... Everytime I read one of your pieces, I'm always taken aback because of the flow in your writing and that drive that you posses that shows in your writing...

Aight Im through gropin on ya girlie!!!

    Beautiful poetry as always,
