Black Spirituality Religion : Resignation... to Shadows...

Good afternoon, poster...

But, yet another ironies of my life, i. e., to have come across somebody like myself, only to see you fading into the sunset, etc.

How come, and why now, since you've also gotta be aware of the ongoing conflicts, i. e., between those other black indians aka the Freedmen Descendants and some stuck on 'stupid' indigenous 'leaders' ad naseum,
one of a particular so called 'civilized' nation?

At least do consider emailing me directly about that particular subject!

Thanks!

FYI...

Take care...

Peace..

Osiyo Chuck,

Peace to meet you. Yes, I am aware of the recent controversy among the Five Civilized Tribes, in particularly the Cherokee, regarding the explusion of Black Freedmen from tribal enrollment. It is a travesty because of the denial and disenfrachisement of these people. I think it has to due to a variety factors - including historical bias harboured among these heavily white influenced groups. The stakes are high now as many groups are seeking to expel people with a valid and historical connection. I recall once, when living in Minnesota, a First Nation man who lived in the projects. This person was full-blood but because his grandfather never enrolled, he was excluded from membership. The funniest thing is his own cousin was presiding chief of the nation and living it up as a tribal casino executive. They knew each other and recognized their kinship but greed and the intervening BIA would not consider him a member. The poor First Nation man, a Dakota, looked more First Nation than his cousin who was chief.

I suggest that those Black Freedmen who are be "blacklisted" go on an national and possibly international campaign to educate and expose Mr. Smith and those Cherokees of duplicity. Funny how - white, blue-eyed and blond haired people are accepted but Black folks with significant ancestry are denied. It's been this way for years yet the fight isn't over. Those people know who they are and they should be allowed the opportunity to enjoy the full benefits of their identity what ever they may be.

I will say more before I leave.

Brotha Blackbird, I wish you well on your journey and thank you for all the knowledge that you have given too. Much love and light to you and yours and I look forward to the return of a Master, once the training is done ;)

You are welcome, Sista. Once I return, if I return, I will still be what I am - only one man - nothing more or less. Mastery is not a goal or virtue. I only have this life to live before I go over. May your heart be filled with the good things life has to offer.

Good afternoon, Elder Brother...

And I do appreciate the feedback!

But, as you already can guess by now, we're writing and talking about generations spanning issues/problems, etc., which even I can't go into detail about, via just one post!

Peace Brother,

I am flattered by the comment, but I am definitely not an elder by any means. I am too young and lack the experience as well as wisdom for eldership.

I understand the depth of these issues for us are overwhelming and indeed generational. Yet for us, it's a question about identity and those wishing to take away our birthright. I stand in solidarity with any Black Indian and am willing to fight for our issues.

Long ago, one of my uncles told me about the concept "white Indian." He told me not too long after oil was found in northeastern Oklahoma, especially on Osage and Quapaw reservation lands, you had alot of whites coming out of the woodwork claiming Indian ancestry and there was an influx of white folks marrying into these bands to lay right to royalties and other fringe benefits. Of course, many groups had already experience a nice percentage of white/Indian miscegnation and this newest trend even seemed natural.

In contrast, many groups, due to inherited biases for white folks or barriers placed up by white folks due to their own fears, were not as accepting or accomodating to Black people with Indian heritage. Many of us had to exist in a shadowly land as marginal individuals and groups and as such we were releagted to a non-existent status.

I think education, education is key. Similiar to how First Nation people hold their "educational pieces" to let people they are still here. We do the same. We need stronger associations and conferences - even mainstream Black Indian powwows. Let us celebrate who we are - the descendants of Red and Black.
