A lawsuit was filed to expose the role of Aetna Insurance Company in the American slave system. The suit filed by Deadria C. Farmer-Paellmann is currently on appeal. Farmer-Paellmann has been a pioneer in the struggle for reparations in the United States utilizing the courts to demand evidence documenting the role of corporations in the enslavement of African people.

Advocates for slavery reparations from corporations are applauding victories amounting to $20 million. The effort, referred to as the "corporate restitution movement," has grown from a one-woman campaign to include legislation, landmark reparations lawsuits, and a student loan boycott.

“A historic victory,” said Ms. Farmer-Paellmann, the lead plaintiff and executive director of the Restitution Study Group, pioneers of the corporate restitution movement. “This is the first major victory for slavery reparations and will bring a new era in making banks, insurers and transportation companies accountable for their trade in human life.”

Unfortunately, I don't believe we will be getting reparations. The U.S. and most of Europe would be held to account, and they are not about to bankrupt themselves or spiritually atone and depart with their assets and resources as a form of restitution - to attempt to make whole what is so broken.

Reparations should have been at the forefront during Reconstruction and through the Civil Rights Movement (which should have been defined and described as a Human Rights Movement) and brought before the world court. Instead, the baby boomers settled for being able to shop where white folks do and sit next to them on the bus.

Excellent points kde, and good you will try and tune in, its a very good BlogTalk. The faction of baby boomers that wanted separate but equal were drowned out, and we were infiltrated with integration.

It all sounds laudable, but with a Black senator who was a community activist in Chicago, saying no before the presidential election, and no after becoming president,

what could we hope from the next candidate in a broke nation?

To: CEOs of Aetna Inc., American International Group, Lloyd\'s of London, New York Life Insurance Company, Southern Mutual Insurance Company, FleetBoston Financial Corporation (Bank of America), AFSA Data Corporation, Brown Brothers Harriman, JP Morgan Chase Manhattan Bank (Bank One), Lehman Brothers, RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, Brown and Williamson, Liggett Group Inc., Loews Corporation (Lorrilard), Canadian National Railway, CSX Corporation, Norfolk Southern Corp., Union Pacific Railroad, and Westpoint Stevens Inc.

We, the undersigned members of the consuming public, are outraged to learn that you, through your predecessors in interest, played a role in the enslavement of African people.

According to reports, you are accused of benefiting from: stealing African people from their homelands, torturing them to keep them enslaved, stealing their labor, raping African women, and breeding humans like cattle. All of this was done for your economic gain.

Some of you have chosen to lie to the consuming public, on your websites and in other public communications, about the roles you played in slavery. We find this behavior disgraceful.

Today you are multi-billion and trillion dollar entities, while African Americans are still struggling to overcome the vestiges of slavery -- discrimination in housing, employment, education, economic development opportunities, and healthcare opportunities, to name a few. All this, while you continue to grow richer off the fruits of their enslaved African ancestors’ labor.

We demand that you take responsibility for your present consumer fraud, and your historical crimes against humanity.

We urge your institutional investors to demand that you do the same.
