STOP Please!

I appreciate the both of you so much. please stop. discuss the issue at hand.

There is nothing to discuss Chevron, there are those that will not be able sign a simple Petition for Reparations, and there will be those that will be. This display of friction from certain posters is a prime example why our people have yet to demonstrate the ability to work together; we can't even agree, without discussion on a signature, it should make you wonder.

At any rate here is further info(actually a part of the links provided in the thread already), made available for those that are interested in the Reparations Movement that will go on whether we sign the Petition or not...Thank God:

Rather or no we deserve reparations, I'd rather my leaders make this governemt give me jobs and better opportunities.

Welcome to Destee.com Pyerse...What leaders? There is no national banner of leaders for Black People. Now if you mean those in the media, then tell them what your needs are. Meanwhile, President Obama is trying to keep America afloat, many are suffering besides yourself.

On Reparations, its a foregone conclusion we deserve to be paid for the free labor performed by our ancestors; where do you stand on that issue?

the new member is mentioning what the president said when questioned about reperations for the descendants of those enslaved in the United States.

I have said in the past — and I'll repeat again — that the best reparations we can provide are good schools in the inner city and jobs for people who are unemployed," the Illinois Democrat said recently

Destee.com Family,

As a result of recent discussions, over the past month on the Conscious Plat Hour, a BlogTalk radio program of our own Queen Conscious Plat http://www.blogtalkradio.com/consciousplat/2010/03/27/the-conscious-plat-hour , the subject of Reparations ensued, the end result is the following information:

Deadria C. Farmer-Paellmann, Executive Director of the Restitution Study Group, standing with RSG special guest film maker Leslie K. Brown at the McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum in Chicago

A lawsuit was filed to expose the role of Aetna Insurance Company in the American slave system. The suit filed by Deadria C. Farmer-Paellmann is currently on appeal. Farmer-Paellmann has been a pioneer in the struggle for reparations in the United States utilizing the courts to demand evidence documenting the role of corporations in the enslavement of African people.

REPARATIONS MOVEMENT GROWING STRONG

(PRLEAP.COM)

Advocates for slavery reparations from corporations are applauding victories amounting to $20 million. The effort, referred to as the "corporate restitution movement," has grown from a one-woman campaign to include legislation, landmark reparations lawsuits, and a student loan boycott.

Here is something from the Black Muslim's Final Call on Reparations:

“A historic victory,” said Ms. Farmer-Paellmann, the lead plaintiff and executive director of the Restitution Study Group, pioneers of the corporate restitution movement. “This is the first major victory for slavery reparations and will bring a new era in making banks, insurers and transportation companies accountable for their trade in human life.”

Good looking out bro. omowalejabali, and thanks big time, for real. I had noticed the disclaimer and decided not to give; instead, I will be getting with the Restitution Study Group and/or Deadria C. Farmer-Paellmann with my gift.

Wachovia admits slave trade profits

After initially denying ties to slavery in January, executives at Wachovia Bank disclosed in a June 2 report that the bank's predecessor institutions — the Bank of Charleston, S.C., and the Georgia Railroad and Banking Company — "owned" at least 162 enslaved Africans and accepted 529 more as "collateral" on loans.

The 111-page report was prepared by the History Factory, a firm specializing in corporate archival work. It also revealed that war financier Robert Morris — a founder of a forerunner institution, Bank of North America — used profits from the slave trade to start Wachovia in 1781.

Clyde,

The information herein contained is useful; thanks for posting it.

At my core, I don't feel as if we will ever get justice here. This place was founded (We came before Columbus) and built by us, but its systems, psychology and entitlements are not designed for us.

I think my future - and that of my family - is probably elsewhere.

kde,

Thank you for your honest sentiment concerning Reparations and the appreciation for the information. No one can argue against your statement, it is the truth:

This place was founded (We came before Columbus) and built by us, but its systems, psychology and entitlements are not designed for us.

And I wish you and your family well, as you pursue expatriation (repatriation)...Peace In my sister friend, for real.

Slave Descendant Takes Reparations Case to the United States Supreme Court
Restitution Study Group 23 May 2007 18:57 GMT

Deadria Farmer-Paellmann with attorney Bruce Afran

On Tuesday, May 22, 2007, the Supreme Court of the United States docketed a petition filed by Deadria Farmer-Paellmann -- the descendant of Africans enslaved in South Carolina -- asking the Court to hear a case against 17 major financial institutions for their role in financing, underwriting and supporting slavery. At issue is whether statues of limitations should be tolled to permit slave descendants to bring actions for restitution against the corporations that allegedly earned profits enslaving Africans in violation of Northern antislavery laws. The case is entitled, Farmer-Paellmann v. Brown & Williamson, No. 06-1533. The defendants in the action include: FleetBoston Financial Corporation, Aetna Inc., JP Morgan Chase Manhattan Bank, New York Life Insurance Co., Lehman Bros, AIG, and Brown Brothers Harriman.

"It is a pivotal moment for African Americans and all people, and we believe the Court should hear the case, said Bruce Afran, counsel for Farmer-Paellmann. Co-counsel Carl Mayer added,"the issues presented are unique and are important in settling a long running injustice."

Adding to the absence of information identifying the defendants as slave profiteers is the fact that many of the defendants continue to deny that they played a role in slavery. Farmer-Paellmann argues in her petition, "most dastardly were the public false statements made by representatives of the JP Morgan Chase Bank denying, as late as March 5, 2004, that they were at all involved in slavery." Months later, after threat of loosing lucrative vending contracts with the City of Chicago, the bank filed a report admitting to their role in slavery.
