Reading The 'Black' On White Pages

See
Cos' they didn't give me
No black history books
But I know
That slaves
Didn't just learn
How to read
And write
Without first, risking
Their 'worthless' lives

But
I could still see
The tall, dark, shadow
Of 'black'
Somewhere
Between the lines
As I read
On white pages

And
I didn't know
That having
White
Insight
Would lead to my
Discovery

I read
Hemingway,
Dickens and Shakespeare
Because I wanted
To pass the course
Of white lies

But
When Hemingway failed me
And I realised
That the Bell didn't 'Toll' for me

And
Simultaneously

Othello married that white woman

That's when I knew
That I was missing
From the story

And so
I searched
The white pages
Again

To try and find myself

And I found myself
Too

On page 34
Or on some other significant number

I was sitting on top of verbs
And so I viewed
The action words
As a sign

And now I
Design
My own story lines

Because

I read

The

'Black'

On

White pages

~ Welcome ~ Welcome ~ Welcome ~

Thank you for putting your "Black" Belle
on this white page letting your ink tell
of things deep, meaningful and pure
giving evidence so we may be sure
that our ancestors are pleased with us
because Belle is here with her brush
