the job -
the people
the pay
the flexibility
the autonomy
the adoration
the respect
the trust
the seniority
the status

the other job -
the children
the rewards
the difference
the leadership
the laughs
the joy
the help

the city -
the familiarity
the consistency
the safety
the ease
the friends -
the support
the love
the community
the smiles
the network
the connectedness

it would be so easy to stay
to settle
to underachieve
to go unchallenged
to waste my Master's
to wake up after too many years and
realize I hadn't kept learning
hadn't been the best I could be
and that it was too late now
so I'm pulling myself out of the
quicksand I started to sink into
why I refuse to let
comfortable become my drug
and why I'm reaching for the sky
before I forget how
re-earn the name "risk taker"
yes I will

You know, this scribe really goes along with your signature gempis. I feel you here, wondering if I am wasting what I know, having so many obligations. I also liked the structure of this piece. It resembles a tower, something that you have to struggle to reach. Great piece.

gempis,
you are feeling the same way i felt when i took a semester off from school, started working.. still lived at home, it was at that time i missed the challenge of life @ school.. the work.. the people, from all walks of life.. I hated the 9-5, hated the check that always seemed to get smaller, and couldnt stand the word $alary... which meant that no matter how hard you bust your ***, your still getting paid the same amount. Go for it girl.. ! Reach for the moon, and land amongst the stars!

Inspirational verses for all including me. we all procastinate wasting so much time but eventually we do it . Time is the factor. Everyone has a time in their life is slated for them and not a minute before. Time is on your side just go for it. Achieve the dream. Powerful poem.

Watz, you're always so thoughtful with your replies, and I appreciate that. A tower? Wow. I hadn't thought of it that way. Thanks so much for the love, sister poet. Back atcha.

$$RICH$$, your warm words are so precious - thank you, baby. Love ya.

PoeticManifesta, I SO appreciate you relating and feeling me. Not to mention the encouragement and support. Thank you! Bless you.

arthur, thanks for your words - that feels wonderful. :rolling:

Prizefighter16, you're a sweetheart. Thanks, baby.

Poetrymama, I thank you for feelin me and for takin the time to reply. It means a lot. :thanks:

Godssoulja, much love to ya, brotha, and thanks for the love you just gave to me. ;)

It's more scary to me to take a risk and fail than to never take one and always wonder.

My sister...
the struggle within oneself, smh
how I know this song so well
but I had a friend say something
yet so profound to me the other day

"Follow your heart"....

so simple a task, but most of us don't do it
we "grow up" get caught in the daily grind
and forget to dream...forget our lifelong "dreams"
and adopt society's philosophies

so...I say
"Follow your heart..."
never settle.

feeling your work here,
Sage
