I was wondering when "Mr. Long Dong Silver" would be included in all the recent controversy around allegations of sexual assault. Anita Hill did her best to block the confirmation of this dude and failed because the vast majority of seated politicians were men. In fact, I doubt that a woman was present on that panel. Talk about a sleeze ball...and a joke of a hearing. Those men probably sat there listening to nasty fact after fact presented by Hill and asked themselves, what's the big deal? Nothing new here, folks! And his white wife sat in the audience and listened to Hill's word for word account of what it was like to intern "under" this guy and never changed facial expressions. She was probably thinking, "cha ching, cha ching". Anyway, if what they say is true, that sexual assault perpetrated by men is about power and not sex, then as the culture shifts and white women gain power, they better suppress their age old urge to practice the "Mandingo" syndrome, otherwise, they will find themselves in the same predicament.
I am not a member of the "Beyhive" nor a big fan of Beyonce' but I have to admit that I like the way that she and Jay Z are speaking out about racism and how they are using their music to also take a stand against it. With as much money they have accumulated through diversifying in different investments, maybe they think it's "safe" to do that now. Do they and others like Oprah have enough social and financial capital to change the narrative and make a difference in America?
