What is Ramadan by Sh. Abdurrahman T. L. Nelson

Ramadan is the 9th month of the Lunar Calender used by Muslims around the world. During Ramadan, Muslims everywhere are required to fast from sun up to sun down every day for the 30-day period of Ramadan. Each day, the fast is broken just before Early Evening Prayer at sun down.

After Early Evening Prayer, usually a celebration occurs in which a feast is prepared and offered and enjoyed by the Muslims Community. Food is usually plentiful as larger quaintities of food has been donated for that purpose. In addition, large quantities of food is made available to the poor and the needy. Thus, community and charity are always a major part of Ramadan celebration.

Later, the Late Evening Prayer is observed. This is followed by Recitations of Quran from memory. Each night 1/30th of Quran is Recited until entire Quran has been covered.

Before Morning Prayer at daybreak, the first meal of the day is eaten and the fast begins. During the fast, a Muslim abstains from all food and drink and sexual activity. Generally, fighting and arguments are also avoided. However, Muslims do fight as a means of self-defense as a last resort.

It was during the Holy Month of Ramadan that Quran was first revealed to mankind. So, Ramadan is a time to show appreciation for DOD's Mercy Which He Demonstrated to us by Revealing Quran as a Guidance and Wisdom. And, it is a time for us to refresh our familiarization with all aspects of Quran. Thus, Ramadan is a happy occasion for Muslims everywhere.

I invite everyone to join us this year in celebrating Ramadan. In every community in the USA, there will be a Ramadan activity nearby and available to anyone interested. This is an outstanding opportunity for non-Muslims to get to know about Islam and their Muslim neighbors. And, we would love to share our hospitality with our non-Muslim neighbors and friends. The more, the merrier.

Matt.9:
[14] Then came to him the disciples of John, saying, Why do we and the Pharisees fast oft, but thy disciples fast not?
[15] And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

Matt.6
[16] Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
[17] But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
[18] That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

That's watsup!

Al-Kabah

3:96: Undoubtedly the first House for the worship of Allah ever built for mankind is the one at Bakka (Makkah), a blessed site and a guidance for all the worlds.

3:97: In it are clear signs and the Station of Ibrãhïm (Abraham) where he used to worship. Whoever enters it is safe. Performance of Hajj (pilgrimage) to this House is a duty to Allah for all who can afford the journey to it; and the one who disobeys this commandment should know that Allah is Self-sufficient, beyond the need of any from the worlds.3:97: (http://al-quraan.org/index.php?main_page=document_general_info&cPath=4_7&products_id=45)

Note: Pilgrimage is performed after Ramadan.
