NY police officers' group criticizes card plan
May 7, 2009
NEW YORK - The New York City group 100 Black in Law Enforcement Who Care is criticizing the police department's new policy of handing out information cards during its controversial stop-and-frisk tactics.

The NYPD started giving out the cards this month, it says, to better explain to people why there were being stopped and searched.

The cards cite a state code allowing stops by officers if they reasonably think a person may be a suspect. The cards list common reasons, like being seen running from a crime scene and carrying what appears to be a weapon.

Group co-founder Marquez Claxton says the card "isn't worth the paper it's printed on." He says the NYPD should notify people who are stopped when their personal information is stored, or purge the data if they're not charged.

Civil liberties groups have filed a lawsuit accusing police of singling out African-American and Latino residents.

The department calls the tactic a valuable crime-fighting tool.

- why do we continue to be surprised? -

- this law has been in effect since 9/11 2001, but introduced to the public around '04....

100 blacks in law enforcement have always been involved in the community since they began. Some of them have even been threatened by former fellow officers. These former officers have been trying to get the approximate membership number and names of members of this group for years. They always have representatives at community meetings and give out their contact info. and speak on the inner workings of "the blue wall" and what can be done about it. We have a spot in the Q-boro where regular meetings are held!

There's one brother that is apart of this group who says he was an officer in Brooklyn for 20 years and never once had to pull out his gun....

a beast is called a beast because of their ways and actions!

I forget what song it was but Krs-one once said in a song:

"say officer over and over again real fast and you get Overseer"

officer
