Can we do a running list of the best slow songs of all time? PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE only list the BEST, and not just the "good" ones! I'll kick it off...

(the obvious) Between the Sheets (Isleys)
(the other obvious) Computer Love (Roger)
    Fantasy (EWF)
    Reasons (EWF)
    I Don't Want to Do Anything (Mary J. Blige/K.C.)
'Til the Cops Come Knockin' (Maxwell)
You Don't Have to Cry (Rene & Angela)
    Portuguese Love (Teena Marie)
    Time Will Reveal (DeBarge)
    There'll Never Be (Switch)

    Foreplay (Raab) {y'all don't recall that one}

    O.K., now we're talking...

Freddie? "A Little Bit More" (w/Melba Moore)

O.K., "All I Do..." was the CUT! Talk about un"sung" heroes of R&B, Troop's "I Will Always Love You"...now that's a deep song

Luther? "There's Nothing Better Than Love", "Any Love"!

Stevie? "These Three Words", "Knocks Me Off My Feet" (and of course, "Ribbon")

BoyzIIMen? "A Lonely Heart", "Uhhh, Ahhh", "This Is My Heart", "One Sweet Day"; heck, their whole first album!

    Johnny Gill..."Feels So Much Better"

BBD..."When Will I See You Smile Again?" (Ricky Bell was ON HIS JOB on this one)

New Edition..."From Boys to Men", "Is This The End?", "Candygirl" (oops, that was a fast song...)

    Intro..."Come Inside"

Atlantic Starr..."If Your Heart Isn't In It"

BTW J'hiah, I believe everything you named was "New School".

Old School: Sam Cooke, Donnie Hathaway, Curtis Mayfield, Delfonics, Chi-Lites...

you didn't say Troop's " i will always love you." that was bomb.
how about "spread my wings" ????

what about boys ll men's "please don't go"??? oh mi gawd that worked for me 1 time yo...

johnny gill's "i'm still waiting". remember dat??

you went there with BBD!!! yeah that song was "poison" no doubt ma..

what about n.e's " coming home"- ralph tresvant's " do what i gotta do". that joynt strenghtened me to do what i had to do 4real.

i'm not feelin' Donny' nem. a lil Sam Cooke. a lot of Curtis Mayfield's..

the isley bros.- all of their old slow jams are off the face of this earth!!

btw, new joynts are the likes or bilal's "soul sista", musiq's "mary go round", d'angelo's "how does it feel", neo- soul etc.....

exitin' out on keith sweat's "make it last forever"

    Smokey Robinson~Agony & Ecstacy

    Chaka Khan~Sweet Thing

    Smokey Robinson/Rick James~Ebony Eyes

    Heat Wave~Always & Forever

Jermaine Jackson~Why did you do...something like that. Nia help me out with the title? Yall help a sistah out!

Joe's~Love Scene, I Want To Know,

    Diana Ross/Lional Richie~Endless Love

    TLC~Red Light Special

    George Michael~Never Gonna Dance Again

    Monica~For You I Will

J'hiah, That Ralph Tresvant CD was nice. I was surprised it didn't do well. He has talent. I guess it's all about who's behind you.

I know some of these aren't Old School, but I think they're memorable slow jam.

Oh, another Connoisseur like myself, huh?

    Oh, but J'hiah,

    I must confess...
when you first said "All I Do...", a Sistah had to break down and go rummaging through the "basement tapes" for Troop. A sistah had to install the CD in the car for the day and just leave it on "repeat" (I Will Always.., that is). And while rummaging, behold what else did I run across, but none other than...

SHAI..."Comforter", "If I Ever (Fall in Love Again)" I will be sure that the lady is...a frieeeeeeend..... (I'm feelin' y'all on the flipside, Shai).

And I have to reiterate the BBD situation...After some 11 or 12 years (I can't BELIEVE it has been THAT LONG!!!), I still haven't gotten over the live in concert performance of "When Will I...".
Matter of fact, Rick threw in a strong "'Cause All I Do...Is Think of YOU" improv to the beat of instrument. Oh, it was outside of the Universe, peeps. lol

"Please Don't Go"...are you kidding me?

*inserting BIIM CD in ROM drive*

...my feelings are soooo deeep, for you, that I won't let go, ohhhh no, of you...

...please don't go away from meeee (I'll be there for you, when you call my name) I'll reach out my hand to you...

Aw J'hiah, you done got sump'm started with BoyzIIMen, this cut here is heavenly. What in the world have I been thinking having it sitting around collecting dust??? BEAUTIFUL!

I gotta listen to "I'm Still Waiting" later, I don't recall that one.

I also don't recall the NE and Ralph tracks you named.
"that joynt strenghtened me to do what i had to do 4real. "

    :laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

    But hold on now...
what about Donnie Hathaway (if he's the one singing this song) with Lela Hathaway...

"...then your love excited me, baby, day's full of joy, complete, can I help this feeling inside...'cause a girl like me has to realize, that all my love is all I have...all my life I look for you...you need me and I need you...things you seem to do devine..."

    *singing*
do you love meee? this is myyy heaaaaaaaaart...

And the Brother Michael McCary was dangerously tittilating with the background slow rap on "Uhh "Ahh". Those Brothers knew what the heck they were doing on that first album!!! :thumbs up:

I can definitely get with Bilal. Admittedly, I'm tardy on Musiq. Haven't checked it out just yet, but heard nothing but Love for it.

    "make it last forever"

    CLASSSIC. Ya get 10 stars, J. **********

    Coco's in the place...

So glad you dig the topic.

O.k. needless to say Teena and Rick were sizzling.

Sweet Thing...CLASSIC. Chaka and Mary J. both hooked that one up swell.

Sorry to say, I'm not a Smokey fan (go 'head and revoke my connoisseur card)...

ANYTHING by Joe, especially "I Want to Know"!!! Much love on that one!

I can't get with TLC too much, but I will add "Baby, Baby, Baby" to the list, as well as the BOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMB "Somethin' You Wanna Know?". TLC was cool with that one.

George Michael? I can get with "Never Gonna..." as well as "Careless Whisper". And I ain't hatin' on some other white groups...

Thompson Twins "Hold Me Now", Paul Young "Every Time You Go Away". There was another great one by Corey Hart, and a good one by Howard Jones. '80's, y'all.

Oh, any of Monica's slow cuts. "With You", "Why I Love You So Much", etc.

As for Jermaine's song Coco, you must mean "Do What Ya Do". I remember it like yesterday. The video (starring Iman) was cold-blooded. Five stars for that one *****.
"Do what ya do when ya did what you did to meeee..."

By the way, this thread is not restricted to old school, so bring the new cuts on!!!

I'm so into Jesse Powell's "You", that the introduction (piano) precedes the greeting on my voicemail. Ha!
