Have you ever wondered why October (Octo-meaning eight) is the 10 month on the calender?

Does anyone here know why this is so?

    Thank You Brother Omowalejabali:heart:

I know it was eight month is the roman calendar, what I'm trying to find out is , why did it change from the eight month to the tenth month in our calendar.

    Heres what I found

In Latin, octo means "eight". The origin of the name may also be attributed to Vedic culture; Octa refers to "eight" and Ambar means "sky". "Oct-Ambar" referred to the eighth sky or month in the Vedic culture. October was also the eighth month in the Roman calendar until a monthless winter period (summer in the southern hemisphere) was divided between January and February http://www.answers.com/October

Are we recognizing the eigth sky in the wrong order?
In Ancient Africa, each sky represented a specific period for doing certain things. I suppose with the change of the hemispheres, so does the cycle of the skies. But our Ancestors were very sophisticated in astronomy. Wouldn't there also be a representation of the sky for our hemisphere in their calendar system? If I'm figuring this correctly, What would be the actual name of the sky for the tenth month? And why do we recognize it out of the order of the stars?

I'm trying to understand the basics of astronomy.

You are trying to make sense out of something that is an invention of the Gregorian calendar which in itself if incorrect, astronomically speaking.

The Gregorian calendar is fixed while the precession of the stars is mutable, it is everchanging. This is why the source says astronomically speaking the eighth month begins in the sign of Virgo, while according to the calendar it is in Libra.

I mentioned some of this in a thread started by brother Cedric concerning the sign of Sagittarius in which I mentioned a 13th constellation (Ophiuchus) and how the calendar dates are inaccurate. I don't remember the link I provided to him explaining the current alignment.

    Thank You Brother:kiss:

I'll review that thread again! What I didn't understand before, will hopefully bring more understanding for me now. I'm so grateful to have you here sharing with us. It funny how, one minute you don't nothing and the next minute, you understand a little bit more.

Thank you for responding in CD's link also. Now I can go back and reread with a new understanding.
