My sister has had type 1 diabetes since she was a small child. We know that the Nutrisweet in the diet sodas she has been drinking all her life is the root cause of her problems with anger and emotional imbalance. A doctor told our mother that it excites your brain cells. I don't know how much credence to give to reports that it goes through a chemical change in the body that turns it into formaldihyde.

She knows it is a substance that she needs to stay away from but does that mean that she can never taste anything sweet again? Is glucose the only naturally sweet substance? Isn't there something else sweet in nature that doesn't break down into glucose?

Glucose can be produced from honey. It is a natural sweetener that is easily absorbed and utilized by the body. It contains about 70% to 80% sugar; the rest is water, minerals, traces of protein, and acids...

    Thanks Aqil,

I'm looking for something that a person with diabetes can eat--something that the body doesn't break down into sugar(glucose). With all the varietyy we find in nature it's hard to believe that everything sweet is made from sugar.

You're welcome sister...here is some more info on honey:

"Careful scientific study has recognized great medicinal value in honey. Honey has significant, known antibiotic properties." (Journal of Pharmacology, Nov. 1996).

"Honey is also a traditional remedy for upset stomach. It has now been proven to prevent the growth of Helicobacter pylori in the stomach - the organism responsible for many ulcers and much abdominal discomfort." (J R Soc Med, Jan. 1994).

"Honey also reduces the gastritis caused by drinking too much alcohol." (Scandinavian Journal of Gastoenterology, March 1991).

"Honey has been proven to decrease the cancer-producing effects of many carcinogens, and to be effective in eradicating yeast." (Cytologic Genetics, Nov-Dec 1996)

A natural antibiotic! That's something to look into since I don't use the ones the doctors prescribe. They fight against my body's efforts to heal itself.

Aqil your wisdom and knowledge is truly appreciated and so are you. :grouphug:
