Poet All Day, Everyday
I want to be the first whisper of the first breath I have ever taken
The first thought of the first words I have ever spoken
The first speckle of ink from the pen
That wrote my first poem
These moments are pure
Pure like the first smiles
Inspired by my mother’s beauty
Pure like the first giggle
Bursting into iridescent bubbles I joyously blew as a child
As a child the sunshine sparkled on glitter rocks
Warmed the concrete beneath my feet
Grass blades velvet against my skin
The breeze blowing against my cheek
Pleasure was so pure then
I want to feel this purity again
Pure like the virgin child I once was
That lay against clean white sheets at 15
The sunshine and wind playing tag softly with the curtains
Fresh and bright as the summer blue sky
Innocent as the moment I looked into the eyes
Of the first man I trusted with my body
Pure as the chocolate smoothness of his skin against mine
Fearless in the first act of love
Committed so sweetly
So completely trusting
The purity of the moment so priceless
So precious
I want to remember the feeling of beautiful
Without the scars and shame of my scarlet sins
Hidden deep within my virgin heart
Somewhere my spirit blows gaily in the wind
Remembering the bliss of what it meant to be
Pure
Pure as the first stroke of rose petals beneath my fingers
Pure as the first kiss in complete surrender
Pure as the first taste of passion
Pure as the sincerity of my love
Long arrested beneath facades of this grown woman
Woman-child lost somewhere in Time
Desperately wanting to recapture
The laughter and light that lingers
Even in the midst of a dim and murky place
Inside
The yearning for that which is sweetest
Never lost
Just buried beneath layers of self denial
Now I open new born eyes long closed
Remembering what it was to be free
Free to love
Free to live
Free to simply exist as myself
I want to experience the loveliness of liberation again
To dance between the raindrops
Laughing as the sunshine sparkles in my eyes
Unscathed by the passage of womanhood
Untouched by the shattered realities of the world
Unbroken by burdens on shoulders
Unbridled by constraints of any kind
Before I die I want to experience
Once more the feeling of being
Pure
