Prophet Muhammad ibn Abdullah (saw), an illiterate man of humble origin, promulgated Islam, one of the world's greatest religions, and became an effective political leader. Today, fourteen centuries after his death, his influence is still powerful and pervasive.

Muhammad was born in the year 570 AD, in the city of Mecca, in what is presently southern Saudi Arabia, at that time a backward area of the world, far from civilization. His father died when he was an infant, and his mother died when he was six years of age. He was fostered in modest surroundings. He attended sheep herds and was illiterate. His economic position improved when, at age twenty-five, he married Khadijah, a wealthy widow. He was the utmost in honesty since his childhood.

Most Arabs at that time were pagans, worshipping many idols. During his trading expeditions, Muhammad learned of one, omnipotent God who ruled the universe. When he was forty years old he received the revelation and inspiration from God through the archangel Gabriel, ordering him to spread the true faith, the Muslim faith, the faith of his forefather, Abraham. For three years Muhammad preached only to close friends and associates. Later he started revealing the message to his tribe (Quraish). As he slowly gained converts, the Meccans began considering him as a danger to their customs, traditions, and positions among other tribes. Around 622 AD, fearing for his safety, he was inspired by God to flee to Medina, where he gained many followers and supporters (Hijrah).

In Medina, Muhammad's following grew rapidly and Islam started spreading everywhere. A series of battles were fought between the people of Medina and Mecca (Badr, Uhad, Khandaq), and this war ended in 630 with Muhammad's triumphant return to Mecca. During the next two-and-a-half years of his remaining life, the Arabian Peninsula witnessed a rapid conversion of Arab, Jewish, and Christian tribes to Islam...

    Peace,

I've covered this so much, and with you as well Sopdet (on Daveyd), that it gets quite ridiculous...

Although there are no cemented accounts of exactly how old Ayesha was when she married the Prophet (pbuh), the age most accepted is 9 years of age...

Now, you say you put ur trust in archealogy (however u spell that), and so I must assume, you are a student of history as well...

History should have shown you that back then, girls became women as soon as they started menstruting...a woman usually starts this process at the age of 9-12....God, in His Infinite Wisdom, has made it so that when a woman starts menstruating, she is able to bear children, and thus can start a family....in Judaism, Christianity and Islam, a woman is marriageble as soon as she starts mensturating...the Prophet (pbuh) and the daughter of one of his closes friends Abu Bakr, Ayesha, were "betrothed" for a period of a few years until Ayesha became a woman...as soon as she did so, she joined her husband, Muhammad (pbuh), in Medina..before that she and the Prophet (pbuh) had never had any 'relations'....keep the fact that the Prophet (pbuh) has not done any wrong, since the Prophets of Allah (pbut) are always righteous (i.e Jesus (pbuh) was sin-less), the fact that Muhammad (pbuh) did not do anything wrong within the boundaries of his society......

it's only when you look ati it from this society's view that people think it akward...but back then, women were married at 9 years of age...the life span was not long, plus, it was the custom...

So, really, what is the purpose of your question???

oh, and before you mention Maryam the Coptic wife of Muhammad (Pbuh), do look at what I've posted on the other site...

    PEACE

At least one of Prophet Muhammad’s (saw) wives was African. Her name was Maria the Copt. Two of the Prophet’s wives were Jewish. Their names were Raihanah and Safiyah...

The religion of Islam is on the rise all over the world. The Muslim population is increasing everyday and everywhere (e.g., Africa, 400 million; Asia, 700 million; Europe, 100 million; America, 10 million; and Australia, 3 million).

    Al hamdu-l-'lah.

Muhammad's teachings of the word of God (Islam) and submission and obedience to the one true God (Allah) has a tremendous amount of appeal for many seekers of knowledge. It is a solution for all the problems of the past, present, and future. Because Islam is the revealed and complete religion of God's people from all walks of life, upon exposure to the religion people change their beliefs and adopt Islam...

The author of this post's contents ask:

    Assalamou Alaykum,

In the name of Allah, we ask you to send to us your generous donation to help Muslims True Millah Center (MTMC), to propagate Islam in U.S.A. as God ordained in the holy Qur'an:

"And strive in God's cause as you ought to strive, He has chosen you and has imposed no difficulties on you in religion. It is the creed (Millah) of your father Abraham. It is he who has named you Muslims, both before and this revelation; that the apostle may be a witness on you, and you be witnesses on mankind. Therefore perform prayers and give charity and hold fast to God; He is your protector the best protector and the best helper." (22:78)

You are aware that it takes funds and commitment to be able to spread the Islamic message in America. The MTMC program requires between 100 to 200 Million Dollars for establishing dedicated TV and radio stations in major cities, Islamic center, and sponsoring an ongoing debates and symposiums with other Creeds.

We are not asking you to give more than what you can from what God bestowed on you. We appeal to you to be generous since our success depends on God's guidance and your contribution. Our ability to spread Islam is greatly limited by existing financial resources. Please remember God's promise that any money you spend in the cause of Allah is greatly appreciated in this world and in the Hereafter.

Wassalam, and may God reward you for your gift toward the cause of Islam.

    Respectfully,

    MTMC
