if i wanted u to know me
to see me naked and whole
    i would show u
    my laughing eyes
and the gap in my teeth that i refuse to close
lips full with promises and prose
my breasts and hips ripe with the possibilities of future gifts
legs that never buckle under the strain of a young black woman's life
feet that propel me on to greater heights
and within this well rounded womanly form
indwells a rich God given spirit
a mind that craves knowledge of self
a heart created to love and to hope
    and my soul -
    the Spirit's home
each day courage grows within me
to show the best of myself to this world
    this is the beginning
    of true acceptance and love
