Occupation
My occupation is whatever I do that requires focus
“Be ye not with sorrow, my children in the ghetto
Although your suffrage may not seem worthwhile
You too shall one day rendezvous
On the banks of the Nile”

I dedicate this to those who are devoted to speaking up for others:

I EAT SLEEP AND DRINK WORDS;
But-not for the notoriety
Or- for the scholarly accolades
The Critical acclaim or-
Pedestal peer praise
Bestowed Upon me and to be frank-
If I had my way there are million
Other things I’d choose to be
But- because I’m a tormented soul
Weaned on sins centuries
Old… the spoken word- chooses me
Sowing within me the bitter seeds
Of Lady Liberty’s past wrongs and
Evil deeds. I am merely the fruit- which Blossoms from the bosom of-
The POET-TREE

At times-
It seems the only constructive
Way release this rage-is to
Allow my thoughts
To ride the pen across
The page then… it’s to the stage…
Where without quiver- I- lift my
Profound voice and for
The voiceless -I
Deliver
Verbally translating the
The salty tracks of
The Modern day minstrel
Clown …In a
Creative crescendo
Of- upside-down smiles
Turned frowns cloaked- in
Sorrow –soaked shades
Of black and brown
I- release.

And the word to me is
More than soul-revealing-or
Spiritual healing
It’s the daily dose
That gives me strength
When it seems there’s no hope
Defeating these demons
With which I’m dealing
God watch over me
For I am merely the
Fruit which blossoms
From the bosom of the
POET-TREE
