Finding herself dissatisfied by the obvious lack of factual African and African American history Glynnis Christian, unknowingly, set out on a journey in search of her true self. She began acquiring the works of historians the world over. The amazing yet subdued wonders of this ancient culture stirred within her a desire to tell others about these long ago curators of knowledge. Since poetry came naturally for her she felt it would be a fantastic way to share her discoveries. Believing as the ancients did, that to obtain knowledge and not share it is a wrong, she penned several poems in honor of the Nubian peoples.
Within the pages of "A Royal Trip – Poetry For Those With Soul" are poems based on African folklore, their everyday lives, and the devastation of slavery, ancient prophecies, and also personal relationships that exist today. Holding to the hope that these writings will reach those that are searching also, a bibliography was added.
This newly published poet whose poems, steeped in African history, have been praised by the likes of celebrated poet Nikki Giovanni. From Giovanni, Christian received the encouragement she needed to introduce her writing to the world outside her notebook. She sent a sampling of her poems to Giovanni, never expecting her to write back. But she did write back, in a letter that Christian has kept. Giovanni had read and commented on her work. She thanked her for touching on subjects that were close to her heart, and encouraged her to share her poems with others.
Though this is Glynnis Christian’s first published work she is well known among internet poetry enthusiasts. She is a member of a number of online writer’s communities and readers’ clubs and maintains her own website, The Realm Of The African Daughter. Born and raised in Virginia, she currently resides on the southern coast of Georgia, where she met the book’s illustrator, Bobby Walton. Together they combined poetry and art to create the rhythm that is A Royal Trip.
