Her Old Soul
By Donnette D. Brown
There is something about her old soul,
Makes a day turn warm, from cold,
Wisdom and knowledge that derives when she speaks,
Causing everyone who hears to want more than just a peek,
At experiences of yester year speaking volumes today,
Of lives that have touched her and perhaps gone away,
Her meditated thoughts brings assurance to mind,
That in her company, peace, no doubt, you will find,
She speaks unhurried with a warm raspy voice,
The tone never changing causing you to alter your once decided choice,
The voice of her old soul some find irritating and frustrating,
Me, well, I find it rather invigorating,
Just when you think she has nothing to offer,
Imagine the things her eyes have seen of people who have suffered,
There is something about her that edifies my soul,
What is it you ask, UMMM?, I don’t know,
Could it be the wisdom and faith that she speaks with,
A Southern draw,
Or the knowledge of her experiences no one else knows
At all,
Those things seen and untold,
Or the confidence she has in the Lord that is bold.
Oh, I know, it’s the spirit of the Lord that keeps her light shining,
Touching my soul and keeps me smiling,
Keeping my spirit filled with laughter,
So that whatever I am going through, at that moment, wouldn’t even matter,
An Old Soul, that what she is to me,
Next time she crosses your path, what’ll she be to thee?
