I watched as she removed the tracks from her hair,
with a flair that made her appear debonair.
I even wondered why in this place she called home,
she never took time to grow hair of her own?

Was it laziness or sheer gratification
that had her locked into this new sensation?
I sat quietly as she peeled off her illusion,
of nails that spoke of never having work intrusion.

And then I got the ultimate surprise,
of realising I'd never seen her eyes.
They changed like the rainbow straight out of stargate,
reflecting what seemed to be a sign of self hate.

I even found skin cream which made her seem brighter,
but the small print guaranteed that it would make her much lighter.
One hole in her tongue, two in her ears and nose,
had me wondering if next she'd be piercing her toes.

I laid back for a while reflecting on her style,
wondering if this is how she was raised as a child.
I caught her bringing up food and in her hand a measuring tape,
but before I could speak she said she had to keep her shape.

We argued because I didn't understand,
her nonsense about she wanted a real man.
So that night I decided to play her own game,
to show that she was really going insane.

I permed up my hair in a pimpdaddy style,
got a fake gold cap to flash with my smile.
Got my fake contacts and made my hair blond,
and proclaimed from that day my name would be Don.

I got two fake earrings, one for each ear,
and manicured nails to make my message quite clear.
I topped it off with a new Gucci set,
and a fake diamond watch that no one could best.

Later that month when the bills came in,
I sat brightly smiling with my gold tooth grin.
I said I'd like to help but I've got something to do.
I have to maintain my plastic image like you.

Needless to say, for all it was worth,
it took my doing all of that to bring her back down to earth.
